| Okay, okay-- the blog update |
[Dec. 6th, 2006|09:49 am] |
Yeah yeah-- stop emailing or calling me and asking me to update my blog-- I've been busy, okay? ;) Lots to cover, less intro more body.
Mid-Ohio Con Report Kelly and I drove the 11 hours up to the Midwest for the con (well, 8 or so to Columbus, Ohio, but we stopped off at my folks' place since we were in the general area for Thanksgiving), and believe it or not, it's a lot easier to drive long distances overnight... at least for me. You have to deal with far less traffic, you don't see the sun rise and set during the trek, and uh... it's easier? I can't think of another reason, it's early.
The con was great (again, for me, at least)... the new location was really easy to manage, I sold out of everything on my table (literally, except one issue of Absolute Zeroes #2, which has since sold online and then some), did tons of sketches, was able to really get to know a lot of contacts and hang with Nate Lovett and his wife Amber, as well as Jamie Snell and Andrew Froedge, also friends from online. The pre-party was a lot of fun, too-- took a few minutes to get swingin', but before long it was a great time. A lot of the Penciljackers bailed on us, but we had a fine time nonetheless. Downtown Columbus is great. Cool comics, toys, and other at the con? I picked up very little, actually. There were some great deals on the floor, but I only picked up 4 Marvel Legends figures I was looking for-- Beta Ray Bill, Loki, classic Green Goblin, and first appearance (more like Art Adams) Thing. Oh, and Tom Strong. Picked up some friends' comics and art from Jamie, Nate, Sean, Gene, Adam, Scott, The Deff, Mike... I know I'm forgetting someone... Oh well.
CON PHOTOS!

And Gene was kind enough to devote an entire blog post to Kelly and I and his con adventure. Great guy, we had a wonderful time getting to know him when several of us hit dinner one night: http://www.geneha.com/blog/2006/12/photos-from-cleveland.html
Absolute Zeroes 4 cover inks
Pencils by Jeremy Dale (me, obviously) and inks by Jamie Snell (aka ragelion, click for website). Thanks, Jamie! Looks great. On to the colorist!
All I want for Christmas ... is a Nintendo Wii. Make it so, Santa-- or face the wrath of a tired artist! For serious, it looks awesome and I wants me one.
Other Holiday festivities Kelly and I went to our church's Children's Christmas thing. Cute kids! Is it bad that our first reaction afterward was missing our dog, Beta Ray? Perhaps! No kids on the horizon for us for a long while, God willing. Puppies are much cooler, and here's proof (thanks to Keith for sending this over):

Speaking of my career... Oh, we weren't? Oh well. There are some really cool things on the horizon for me, and I'm truly amazed with how the pieces fall into place sometimes. Thanks for all the support, guys! Enough hype, just wanted to mention that.
------------------ Okay, gotta take off. Have a good one, and have a great holiday season!

Far-too late WW Chicago recap... I know, I know-- I should have reported back sooner, but hey-- I've been busy! So... here's my Chicago report. - First off, all pics I have from the eventful weekend are here: http://flickr.com/photos/jeremydale/sets/72157594230373157/

... in reverse order for some reason, so you're seeing us leave on Sunday at the start and arriving on Thursday at the end. Enjoy and all that-- I didn't take ANY of these pics, so don't go talkin' "you should focus more" and all that-- I can't help it that a random passerby can't take a steady picture, hehe.
- I sold all but a half-dozen books total, and did dozens of sketches. All in all, my most profitable convention ever. In no way can I complain, nor would I want to. Overall a great, great weekend.

- I submitted to Marvel and DC (and many other companies) for the first time. Ever. As silly as it sounds, it was a real nerve-wracking experience, but how can I complain? I MADE THE MARVEL CALL-BACK LIST. I was floored. So I was able to meet with a Marvel editor and talk over my work. Went really well, too! It's nice to know I'm on the right track, not completely delusional or anything. That made my weekend. Did some more samples for them (mailed off already) and got the business card, so I'm pleased.

- Hung out with the Heroforge guys almost all weekend-- and in between the Chicago pizza and oh-so scrumptious chocolate cake, we sketched a lot in my room, mocked my wife and Nate's wife for loving Legally Blonde, and stayed up far too late overall. It was interesting seeing a random cucumber next to the elevator at the Hyatt-- and then looking down to the lobby, and (by this point it was 3 or 4 am?) seeing the masses below swaying in a drunken unison that looked like a zombie attack more than partying. Hilarity.
- Scott Wherle rocked the new PS2 karaoke game-- and Shane and I were witness to his hard-rockin' skills as he wailed out Franz Ferdinand's Take Me Out to a large crowd. I have pics.
- Nate Lovett got the Marvel callback on Sunday and Caanan got it from both DC and Marvel, I believe-- and Jamie got the DC callback. Nice to see them all get the credit they more and more deserve every day. I am SO pleased for them.
- I couldn't find ONE Batman Black & White Mignola statue at the entire con-- and since that was the main thing on my list, I sulked a bit, but since I found one at my home shop here in Columbia the day after I got home, I can't complain. Picked up a bunch of Marvel Team-Ups (the old ones, not the Kirkman-penned series) that I didn't have. Kelly ended up getting a ton of deals all weekend from dealers just because "she's cute". On one trade paperback trip alone, she saved me 50 bucks off the total and picked up a large stack of books. NICE.

- Guilty pleasure comic I discovered at the con? Aspen's Shrugged. I would never have picked this book on my own, but I was given one-- and I really like it. A lot. It's goofy and a light read overall, and I love that about it. Picked up the rest of the series since.
- Man, what else? We left Chicago Monday morning at 7am and drove straight through to Columbia, South Carolina... arrived at 2am? Yikes. Needless to say, we were tired. We did take an hour lunch break in Kokomo, IN to take my Mom out to lunch. Tons of fun.
New addiction I was at World Market the other day, and found these little Penguin chocolate caffeine mints, and I LOVE them. I think I may have to order a crate of them or something, they're great. Keeps me from drinking soda as well, so that's a plus.
Attention... Mouse Guard rules. That is all.
---------------- I should work. More later.

| WizardWorld Chicago? I'm coming, baby |
[Aug. 2nd, 2006|05:56 am] |
Last call for WizardWorld!
It's 5:48 am on Wednesday morning here in humid South Carolina, I've been up for over 24 hours working and I ... I just finished everything I needed for Chicago. Dear Lord, I'm done. I leave for Indiana in a few hours-- yes, we're driving... I know, I know-- crazy.
I think I really have some amazing stuff to show this year. I'm really looking forward to that and seeing everyone again. Swing by, buy something, talk, egg David Mack (who's apparently only a few tables down from me or so), and buy something. For serious, give some some validation the last 20-some hours wasn't a waste. Hehehehehe. And now? NOW... a nap. Yes, a nap sounds good. ------------
